Download a Facebook video on iPhone

On iPhone: copy the video link from the Facebook app, open VidKlik in Safari and paste it, choose a quality, then — when Safari opens the player — use the player menu (⋮) → Download video. The file lands in the Files app, under Downloads.

Go to the tool

Downloading a Facebook video on iPhone feels like a small obstacle course: Safari would rather play the video than save it, and the file you finally get does not appear where you expect it. Both quirks have simple explanations, and once you know them the whole thing takes a minute.

The path, in four steps

1. Copy the link from the Facebook app. Open the video, tap Share, then Copy link.

2. Open VidKlik in Safari and paste the link. Use the Facebook video downloader in Safari — the path below relies on Safari's download handling, which third-party browsers on iOS historically route differently.

3. Choose a quality, keeping an eye on size. The result lists Facebook's real renditions. On mobile data, a 720p line is usually the sweet spot; 1080p files are several times heavier.

4. Confirm the download — via the player if needed. Safari may ask "Do you want to download this file?" — confirm. Very often, though, tapping a quality simply opens the video player. That is the step that makes people give up: the download is one tap away, inside the player's menu (three dots, top right) → Download video.

Detailed mockup, the key iPhone move: in the video player opened by Safari, the menu button (three dots, ringed in orange) opens the panel where you tap Download video
On iPhone, everything happens in the player: menu (⋮) then Download video, and the file goes to the Files app.

Finding the video: Files first, Photos second

The point that confuses almost everyone: the downloaded video does not appear in Photos. Safari files downloads in the Files app, in the Downloads folder. Open Files → Downloads and your video is there, playable in place. To move it into Photos, tap the file, then Share → Save Video. Two extra taps, once you know where to look.

The Safari settings that change everything

Two checks if a download seems not to start. First, where Safari stores downloads: Settings → Safari → Downloads — choose "On My iPhone" if you want the file on the device rather than in iCloud Drive (where it may wait for a Wi-Fi sync to appear). Second, if the player menu refuses to appear, make sure you are tapping the three-dot button on the video player itself, not a browser toolbar button.

An older iPhone (before iOS 13)?

A bit of history that explains many outdated tutorials still online: before iOS 13 (2019), Safari had no download manager at all, which is why old guides route you through file-manager apps and convoluted shortcuts. On any iPhone running iOS 13 or later — the overwhelming majority today — Safari downloads directly, and none of that is needed.

And on iPad?

The path is identical, with one comfort bonus: the larger screen lets you keep the Facebook video open in one window and VidKlik in another with Split View, so copying and pasting the link is a drag rather than a back-and-forth.

What will not work, even on iPhone

The limits are the platform's, not the phone's: private videos, friends-only videos and group videos (even public ones) cannot be fetched by any online tool. If a video matters to you and sits behind one of those settings, the owner downloading it from their own account is the only route.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the video not appear in Photos?

Because Safari stores downloads in the Files app (Downloads folder). Open the file there and use Share → Save Video to place it in Photos.

Safari plays the video instead of downloading it. What do I do?

The most common behaviour of all: in the player, open the menu (three dots, top right) and tap Download video. The save starts immediately.

Do I need a special app on iPhone?

No. Safari and the online tool are enough. File-manager apps that ask for your Facebook login are a security risk, not a shortcut.

Where does Safari save downloads?

By default in Files → Downloads, either on iCloud Drive or On My iPhone depending on Settings → Safari → Downloads.
